I've driven Adam to school the last couple of days so that he can get his equipment and himself safely to his art exam and I've been admiring the blue flowers that are popping up all over The Backs making it very cheerful. I know that some are anemones but I'm not sure what these are - they look a bit like 'invader bluebells' but they are quite floppy. Anyway it may look nice but those clouds were passing over at a fair clip under the influence of some very windy weather. Apparently there is the biggest 'Fen Blow' for years underway centring on Colne. For those unfamiliar with our local geography, East Anglia is flat - very flat. The Fens are an agricultural area to the East of Cambridge and Colne, which is in the middle of The Fens, is the lowest point in the country. When approaching the little town you find yourself driving around the perimeter of huge fields which are full of beautiful fertile black soil. Unfortunately lots of that soil is now blowing across the countryside.
Three good things:
1. Hedges
2. Great drying weather
3. Out tonight with friends.
And isn't the wind scary?! - my garden gate isn't currently shutting properly and lost many hours of sleep listening to is smacking against the fence post.
@katharinehubbard There's a rose that bangs on our front window - freaks the kids out! And of course the dog has been on a barkfest. Don't know why we can't have a normal nice day!
I love the way you have focused in on the flowers. The blur of kinds is very restful on the eye! All my sheets on the line today and then off the line within a minute. I need some of those gale force pegs!
Lovely to know the proper name...365 good for learning things!!! Pretty flowers but made nicer with the imposing outline of the building behind, enjoy your evening !!
You will have black fen soil all over your windows!
@judithg Probs escapees :) Bertie had us up in the early hours, scaredy dog, as all the wheelie bins and recycling boxes were blowing around and down the road. A right mess - goodness knows where some of the recycling boxes ended up?
Gorgeous photo! Hope the exam has gone well. I've been thinking about you (Oh, and Adam) Equipment? He took equipment? I'm impressed!
I did a PGCE in Cambridge about 17 years ago and used to take a drive into Fenland every now and then - such an alien landscape to me, but fascinating.
@jantan Well - his portfolio thing. Haven't seen him yet but sounds exhausted on the phone. 'Not the best thing he's ever done but OK'... so far... Probably that's the best bet - the 'best thing ever' would never get finished and or would go wrong at the last minute.
I agree that your POV and DOF are terrific in this. We call these shooting stars here (obviously, a nickname). I am so drawn to their color. It's intoxicating.
Lovely composition, love the focus on the flower. Being a plant person had to look it up! Chionodoxa are related to Scillas, they look pretty much the same in the book. Really pretty whatever.
Fav. Perfect focus. Nice change for chapel not to be centre of attention! Someone on 365 kindly identified mine as scilla, (I have some growing under the hedge) but someone above could well have beaten me to it!
I like the DOF.

we got our own wind noises - well weird once wind gets properly up.
hound a-barking at wheely bins amongst others..
