Another frustrating morning, during which the Windows partition of my computer shut down without warning for a 'Windows update' and deleted the previous hour's work, was improved significantly by a walk with Rebecca. Her new book is out on 2nd May and she's been off to glamorous launch events in London where it's been very well received. Which is quite right because it's fab. Photos tomorrow - I'm planning a collage.
Three good things:
1. My magnolia is at its absolute peak and the huge amelanchior next to it which has contrasting clouds of blossom is also looking fantastic despite having seemed quite sick for two years (maybe it likes the rain).
2. Rebecca's manifold and great talents.
3. A fascinating and thought-provoking chapter on autism in Andrew Solomon's 'Far from the Tree'.
Oh, very beautiful Judith. I adore magnolias and always think it's a shame they last such a short time. The colours of this are so delicate and your background is just awesome. Fav!
Instant fav! I'm so in need of wonderful colour like this. Another good thing to add to your list - you didn't get a snow blizzard like I did yesterday. Be thankful! Winter doesn't want to end over here. ;)
Superb Judith such depth of colour & DOF makes this a fave even though I don't do flowers I love it...fave! I always remember one of your first photos of your garden with the blossom falling & you could just see Nigel in the distance..we could perhaps have a repeat one day?
Rebecca has a new book , excellent look forward to your tomorrows photo.
@happypat Ah yes - I contemplated sending him down there for a re-enactment this evening as the tree looks amazing today but I needed to change lens and was too lazy (!) so I'm hoping the tree will hang on another day!
This is an incredible capture. I tried a few shots of mine today (I think the frost will get it this weekend and usually does) but just how did you get this focus and DoF?? Just superb and a fav.
@lucypics I climbed the tree (to make sure my flowering currant was in the right place) and used my zoom. First attempt I zoomed in too far and I lost ALL detail in the background. I can never get a decent shot until the bottom flowers open up - people do lovely shots of the canopy but mine are never right. Sharp frost tonight I believe :0(((( just not the same brown.
@judithg Climbed the tree!! How funny. I have a flowering currant behind my magnolia - sure you weren't up my tree! I have checked your settings and will have a go if mine is not brown by the morning!
Goodness I am behind in this lovely photo! What is the book that Rebecca has written, Judith? My computer is more polite - it asks if you want to update!
A magnificent magnolia Judith ....... very artistic and lovely light .....it's quite high key too which adds a nice effect and feeling to the whole shot
An hour is work lost? Oh horrible. I am still running VISTA and it crashes alot. Need to either get Windows 7 or a new computer. Not sure which to do...this photo is gorgeous and deserves all the favs it got. Wow! Fav
I love magnolias (but haven't managed to have one survive in my garden). I haven't taken many photos of them that have pleased me either, this shot is wonderful and now I know where I went wrong in taking photos of them
Rebecca has a new book , excellent look forward to your tomorrows photo.
