I came down with a summer cold last night. Having messed about with photos for some custom birthday cards for quite a while I started on a 365 photo and then started to feel dreadful and gave up. Still feeling rather sorry for myself and I have a lot to do before we go away. So - filler from my early morning wander on the 7th.
Three good things:
1. Not feeling at all inclined to do a supermarket shop I dug around in the freezer/garden/store cupboard and tried Angels Hartnett's 'One pot chicken with spicy rice' that she did for a programme on food poverty last night (no raisins added - yuck - and no monkey nuts - didn't have any (& not sure what they are)) but really delicious and had the thumbs up from Adam.
2. Lovely response to by hedgehog shots - impossible not to love hedgehogs.
3. Neurofen cold and flu which will hopefully get me through some ironing.
The red hot spires of Cambridge. They look great against the hazy sky. Hope your cold feels better tomorrow - there's nothing worse than a summer cold (except perhaps a winter one!)
Lovely view, great hazy tones. I watched with interest the programme last night but got a bit cross with Richard Corrigan for going way over budget and producing salmon, I think he had slightly missed the point! Hope you get well soon. There's nothing worse than feeling grotty when the sun's shining xx
@psychographer Yes my thoughts entirely - I think he wanted to give them a decent meal but £11 for a piece of salmon - like they could reproduce that! And he could have done a nice Thai broth with chicken thighs and veg.
@judithg We thought exactly the same. I've no doubt that all of them wanted to create nutritious meals but it's almost impossible. I left the programme counting my blessings that we are fortunate enough to be selective in what we buy and eat although I've seen a marked increase in the cost of my weekly shop and I'm not buying anything different or being extravagant! It's a scary thought! xx
@psychographer So have I - and the farmers are struggling so we have to look at why the likes of Tesco are expected to make bigger & bigger profits. When they release results i always wonder why it's a good thing that they make billions. And it wasn't exactly a large sample in the two programmes but the working people seemed to be in more food poverty than the others & they had less time to shop & cook. Couldn't help but think there needs to be a better system.
Such a pretty turreted, spired & domed skyline, you live in a wonderful place! I am loving this heat & such a pleasure sitting & eating outside.
Do hope that darn cold goes away soon...think summer colds are worse than winter ones...such a stuffed up feeling in all this heat...horrid.
