The 'fluff trees' were in full flow today and it looked like it was snowing in places as I headed across Lammas Land. Somebody recently (@busylady ??) pointed out that 1st August was Lammas Day or Harvest Day which made me realise that Lammas Land must be named by association with that rather than anything to do with fluffy creatures from South America. In fact according to our trusty local historian, C Hadley, lots of the green spaces around Cambridge were designated Lammas lands and were common land for 9 months of the year and then reverted to the owner's use for 3 months from (or maybe up to) 1st August. I took a few barbed wire shots and had trouble choosing - I'll probably wish i'd chosen another as soon as I've posted.
Three GT:
1. A busy day on the river so Rachel should have plenty of work though a bit blustery at times.
2. First hockey training of the season for Adam (though that is another sign that summer is moving inexorably towards autumn).
3. A photo of some firemen for you tomorrow ;0)
No it wasn't me - I know nothing about Lammas Day. The fluff featured on the local news recently though. I don't think I've seen it, but am going to be in Cambridge on Thursday - is it still worth a look?
@jgpittenger@bpaquette It would have to be a flying sheep - a bit too high up! There is some sort of tree that is pouring out fluffy seeds at the moment - it's all over.
Incredible detail! @rosiekind - me too, Rosie - or maybe you can beat a hunk in fireman's uniform - a French policeman in thigh-length tight leathers!!!!!!!!!! ( I was the one who had to explain to him why we were going along a street with a route barrée sign....)
