I took Rachel down to the river at Milton today - it's my current favourite walk! We both had a bit of a laugh with the camera trying to catch dragonflies on the wing - we have one or two vague smudges in the bag but nothing you could positively identify as a dragonfly. So I had to focus on getting a picture as the ones I was contemplating using from yesterday were rainy day pics and today was warm and dry. Sadly the bank holiday is set to be pretty wet too - no surprises there! It didn't seem particularly sunny when we were out but the light shining through the butterfly's wings is quite pretty and unusual I think. I also have a few pictures of a dead bat - not so pretty but interesting. The poor thing had flown into a sticky plant and got stuck.
Three good things:
1. Caught up a little bit with sleep.
2. Having my daughter home - will be sad when term starts again.
3. Went to see my little friends Rosie and Tom today and was presented with a steady supply of caterpillars and worms. And then I had a text to say that Rosie (3 and a half) has learned to ride her bike without stabilisers - what a star!
Would love to see the smudge pics!! Keep trying it gets easier!!! Haven't heard from Harry for two nights but have just seen Reading Festival on the telly, blimey!!! Nice shot btw.
Marvelous light. I sure know what ou mean re smudge shots of butterflies on the wing. Glad you are getting to enjoy time with Rachel. I know how you'll miss her too soon
Hope you'll post the bat. Sad that it died though. We have about 25 that fly out from the bat houses above our deck every evening but their speed and the darkness makes for smudge pictures at best!
I love butterfly bushes - ours have propagated and in good locations, but I still have to tromp over the fences around the gardens to get a good shot. Good bribery for the butterflies to sit still for a moment. Much easier subjects than dragonflies. I found a dead dragonfly in my car the other day and in the split second after I tossed it out the window I thought "Darn - should have saved it for a 365 photo!!!"
