Sorry - I'm back to headless hockey - in this case because it focusses the eye on the action. I did try and take a few shots on our way to the game - huge flat expanses of Fenland with ploughed fields, dramatic skies and distant wind farms would have been really good but they didn't quite survive for motion of the car.
Three GT:
1. Tom Finney RIP - a much loved legend for my home town of Preston. A true gentleman who will be very sadly missed.
2. A trip to Wisbech 'Capital of the Fens'. I've never been and it has a reputation for being a bit rough but it has a really fascinating Georgian 'High Street' which basically has the River Nene running along it. There's a National Trust House there and I'll make the effort to go again and stop in the town to take some photos.
3. Adam scored goal number 4 in impressive fashion - and then slightly spoiled it by saying it was a total reflex shot - but he had to be in the right place to do it!
Thanks for all your recent comments which are very much appreciated. I have been a bit lax and had a couple of evenings off but will try and get to everybody ASAP.
@maggiemae It's quite scary when that ball is bombing along. Adam will have a good bruise tomorrow from a ball smacked on to an unprotected bit of his foot - but he's at a party tonight so he may be anaesthetised!
Ah I saw Tom Finney on Facebook. I don't really remember him to be honest, at least as a player. I wonder if that horrible pub in penwortham is still there?
Great shot of the action on the field. I can't imagine playing without shin guards (far left)...but of course, I'm not a young dude. :) Good for Adam and his goal!
@fueast I think he was a player way before our time but I'm sure he used to have a sports shop where we used to go for trainers (the internet only mentions his plumbing business but I don't think I'm going mad!) - and it was always a bit special when he served us!
@peggysirk Er no - very unusual especially as these days smacking a ball at the shins is often a tactical move! He was a fast runner that one though...
Well done, Adam for having the reflex at the correct time! (But next time don't admit to it....) I'm sorry to say that this photo encapsulates all that I hated about hockey at school!!!! (I'm sure I wouldn't have liked football either!)
i enjoy your headless hockey shots judith .... your title is quite apt for Sir Tom too...he could play centre forward as well as winger.... They have England's greatest forward line reunited in heaven now..Mathews , Finney and Lofthouse... I wish many a modern day footballer would model themselves on the legends that are Stanley, Tom and Nat (great old school footballer names too)
Hear lots about Tom Finney in the past couple of days. He sounds like a wonderful person who today's football stars could learn a lot from. A tough game hockey, and that person with no shin pads must be mad!
@pistonbroke
(I played squash last night)
