I ordered a couple of bird boxes from Amazon - a fairly standard but pretty green robin box and this one for blue tits etc. It had really good reviews and it is indeed really very smart and well built (it's a composite of some sort rather than wood). Unfortunately I didn't find any that said the birds had actually nested in it so we'll have to see! I actually thought I'd ordered it ages ago but I seem to have failed to press all the necessary buttons - it came pretty quickly after I corrected things but I'm guessing it will be too late for this season now - they like to get familiar with a box first. And there was a Danbo discussion thread somewhere that made me have a look to see if I could get one - normally they are very expensive and/or sold out - but this time I was in luck. I am getting a lot of stick from the boys and have been forbidden from makng clothes for him - we'll see.... In Year 4 you need some sort of help with inspiration!
Three GT:
1. 2 goals for Adam in the hockey.
2. A perfect day for spectating (a bit warm for playing perhaps).
3. Danbo has light up eyes - who knew - Adam pulled his head off to remove the safety strip - good job I didn't see him!
Gosh that's a posh one! The tits are already building a nest in one of our boxes and I put some swan/goose down stuffed in a conifer tree which they have been using to line their nest. The robin is also building a nest in the ivy. I'm so pleased that there are going to be lots of nests in the garden again. I think the wrens are building in the winter jasmine. I can't wait to see the little ones
Love your Danbo shot, and his little letter too. I've heard that the blue-tits don't go for boxes which have paint around the entrance, so you see some bird boxes which are left unpainted around the 'door'. Hope you have more luck with yours as it is very smart.
Cute shot and love the box. We didn't put our bird box out until later than this last year and despaired of anything going into it. Then suddenly we noticed great tits flying in and out, so you may well be ok. I saw one going in there the other day checking it out hopefully!
