A beautiful hot day today so I took Monty to the river where there's some shade on the tow path. The air was buzzing with dragonflies of various size and hue - many in pairs. Seems like an odd technique - I think there's a bending around of the tail at some point but then evolution is a wonderful beast. I had a lovely view of a heron on a branch and took some in focus shots as he took off but alas - manual settings led to over-exposure. A bit disappointing but not the low point - that was when I discovered that Monty was not, as I presumed, having a drink down in the undergrowth on the riverbank but eating something well into a state of decay.
And rolling in it? A very difficult technique indeed in fact mind boggling exertions! These dragonflies come in a myriad of colours ....have never seen so many variations!
Great capture - well done! Jinks ate something on the walk the other day and later was horribly sick but he at least had the sense to come down off the bed in the spare room and vomit on the tiles in the hall!
Love the perspective on this! Watching dragonflies mate really does make you wonder if that is the most practical technique evolution could come up with ;). I hope Monty is going to be ok!
