even a quick stop for a leg stretch can lead to a photo op

I'm pretty sure this is the Purple Crowned Lorikeet, I spent some time perusing bird books before coming to that conclusion. You'd think someone who takes so many bird pictures would be a keen twitcher/bird watcher and be able to identify species very easily. Not so. I have several books, and am able to identify certain bird calls now and then find the bird for photographic purposes, but not much better than that.
I spotted a group of these pretty little lorikeets on a drive through rural western Victoria. I was taking a quick break and parked next to the pretty flowering gum. I then heard the birds chirps and calls to each other and grabbed my camera and was rewarded with this pretty little lorikeet.
So pretty - and what a lovely shot, those colours are so soft and pretty =)

According to Morcombe, this is definitely a Purple Crowned Lorikeet (Glossopsitta porphryocephala).

Pretty little guy and well done!

@bobfoto thanks for the id confirmation, I've seen so many parrots (and other birds) that I'd never seen before since I started the road trip.

@lbmcshutter - Road Trips are great for that! Love seeing new birds! You should ask Santa for the Morcombe book if you do not already have it!?
