In Pakistan it is rare to see a truck which has not been turned into a mobile work of art, they are intricately painted, the body modified, often doors removed and replaced with carved wooden doors, various decorations stuck to the body and a series of chain/chain mail hung from the front which make a jingling sound. This chain led to the trucks being known as "jingle trucks" in my circle and I assume the broader expat community.
The art is a lot about oneupmanship amongst the truck owners and will have themes including religion, cultural life, lucky talismans or politics.
Buses are often beautifully painted too, I would also see tractors and bicycles decorated and plastic flowers stuck on them, donkey and horse carts would also be beautified and the beasts pulling them also decorated, not unusual in some parts of the country to see horses or donkeys with henna dyed stockings and or polka dots.
They are magnificent and as I locate more photos of them I am sure I will share them again with you
How interesting that this would be the outlet for artistic expression there. Thank you for sharing this. I am enjoying learning about other cultures through your photos.
we have an auto body shop near here with a sign "take pride in UR ride but I don't think they envisioned anything like this. This is really extreme, wonderful shot!
I have to say - and you migt tell me I'm totally wrong, but as countries go Pakistan is the one I'd least like to live in, even on a par with Somalia and Sudan. I'm not casting aspertions on the people, even though they are a large part of the population of my town, but it seems a lifestyle very removed from the western lifestyle and very heavy with religion and female subservience. That's just an outsider observation, but colourful trucks still.
@chewyteeth I enjoyed my posting in Pakistan, and whilst much of what you say is true to some degree, it is fascinating to live in places you'd not consider for a holiday, I saw so many wonderful places and had great experiences, and as a woman it was not always easy, however, I had freedom of movement, I wore normal clothes, I went places alone with no problems.
