Doesn't everyone buy their coffin from a road side stall?
Yes, this is a coffin with a window and a bit of metal roof to keep the weather off the merchandise (ie the coffin)
The Afghan refugee village had a number of interesting things for sale, one was homemade ladders. But most intriguing to me was the coffins with a window. I made my colleague pull over so I could jump out and get a photo.
Next to the coffin is a charpoy, a type of bed common in India and Pakistan, a wooden frame with a platform made of string or rope. I saw a lot of brightly coloured ones, the string being a series of brightly coloured plastic coated string woven in intricate designs.
I often saw charpoys outdoors, under trees, in a field, up against a wall, in a carpark ...pretty much anywhere and generally they'd have an occupant grabbing a quick (or long) nap.
I nearly bought a charpoy to bring home. I didn't even consider buying a coffin with a window.
Fascinating find, now the hunt is on for a tomb with a view to match. It wouldn't be too hard to modify a wooden bed frame and make a Charpoy, sounds like a cross between a bed and a hammock. Comfy I would imagine.
Man, this is wild! So unusual, uncommon, and kind of creepy. An excellent find! (Wouldn't want my craggy, old "mug" in the window, so I'd keep a picture of a young, gorgeous Kate Hepburn handy. LOL) Take good care, Les x
HAHAHA, what a GREAT souvenir that would be to bring home! This is so strange, comical, and interesting for so many reasons. Good call, I would have pulled over for a photo too.
What, you didn't bring one home? LOL. I have never seen a cofin for sale by the side of the road, but I can imagine this is as good a way to purchase as any.
Cool off-the-wall find, Megan. I love shots like this.
