Film February - Topkapi Sarayi (Topkapi Palace) - Istanbul (not Constantinople)

The palace was the home of the Ottoman Sultans and their families for approximately 400 years (1465-1856). It is a small city covering 173 acres.
It is now a museum.

After mentioning ceramics for sale in yesterdays photo I thought I'd share some different ceramics today - the tile work at the Sultan's palace in Istanbul was wonderful. I love the beautiful geometric designs. There were so many wonderful combinations of these shapes.

I did actually buy and bring back with me two sets of tiles, each will make a large panel including a border. They can be laid out in several different configurations, just turning each tile 90 deg changes the design.

I loved my time in Turkey and would return there in a heartbeat. I'd like to return to many of the places I have been, another place I'd like to explore further is Japan. I loved the food in Turkey and Japan, probably more than ost places I have been.
Stunning

People tell me how cool Turkey is, especially the food and the people, it's cheap too from the UK, but I didn't go yet. I'm gonna catch up now since I have neglected looking at your fantastic journeys through dangerous places, theme! ;)

Wow imagine living in there?! I can see how it would feel cool even in the heat of the day. Fabulous colours! My kids went to Turkey last year for 2 weeks but stayed in the hotel complex with their Dad and his new family the Entire Time!! Can you believe it?!

@chewyteeth I was in Turkey for 3 months in 2002 and the food and people were wonderful. I love ancient places (I think that is a result of living in a young country) and Turkey has some wonderful ones - some wonderful Greek and Roman ruins as well the Ottoman era ones.

@filsie65 oh that is such a shame, I had such a wonderful time, so many fascinating places to see, the people were great - I learnt to speak some Turkish through my immersion, but in tourist areas English (and a plethora of other languages) were widely spoken.

Turkish food is amazing; I'd love to visit one day. Great photo with all that detail and marvelous blues. Eastern design and architecture is wonderful to me with its complexity and intricacies.
