Film Feb - Sultanahmet Mosque (The Blue Mosque) by day
I've shown you the stacked domes, the inside and by night, so thought I should also share a shot by day.
I was there during the summer months and the park between this Mosque and Hagia Sofia was full of people enjoying the sunshine, food vendors with carts. I saw a lot of food vendors selling corn, corn on the cob grilled and boiled.
My favourite were the vendors of pastries called simits - and the cinnamon ones were my favourite. The ones with blackened sesame seeds were also yummy. These guys used to roam the streets carrying there tray of simits on their heads. When I worked in Ankara I used to walk to work, one because the food was so good that i needed the exercise and secondly the traffic was scary. It was probably a 30 min walk each way. I used to pass a number of simit sellers noticing each had a unique call, perhaps to allow people to go out and buy from their favourite seller - some would drag out the word "siiiimm-mmiiiittt" another said "smitt-tteeee-aaaayyy' both starting low and ending on a higher note, but the one that intrigued me made an unappetising gargle "uuurrgghh-ah" - never wanted to buy from him.
@filsie65 funny you should mention it, when I was in Turkey I amused friends and colleagues (both expat and Turkish) wit my impressions of the simit sellers
