Shinjuku is known for the entertainment area close to Shinjuku station - we were heading out for a Shabu Shabu meal and stopped for a few photos. (The meal was great too).
Green Peas on the left is a pachinko parlour, pachinko is a bit like a vertical pinball machine (but without the flippers) a bunch of small metal balls are released and cascade through the machine and the aim is to collect them in scoring areas of the game (I think) - we played but I had no idea what was going on. It is also a popular method of gambling taking the place of slot machines. Gambling for money is illegal so apparently they win points/tokens or prizes which are then taken to another establishment where those prizes/tokens are exchanged for cash.
@trude you reminded me I was going to comment on where theres a will ...but in terms of photos, only had my little 3.3 megapixel p&s, no tripod or shutter release so I found a wall (had to go up one floor) and used the self timer on the camera
Dazzling, wonderful, exciting, and..............a Fav. (Also, have a college chum who lives in Tokyo, and tells me that the revenue from pachinko parlors is astranominal - in the Billions of dollars!.) Take good care, Les x
