Fairy Martin (Petrochelidon ariel) nests - Katherine Gorge, Northern Territory
The fairy martins, members of the swallow family) construct these bottle shaped nests, these ones are on an overhang on the river, the nests would be under water when the river rises during the wet season.
The nests are lined with grasses and feathers.
How divine - wouldn't mind living in one of these myself! Not too much housework, quite warm, safe and functional. LOL Great capture and superb craftsmanship.
I'm so glad you didn't crop this - they look so tiny (I think they are tiny?) The little face peeping out really puts it in perspective. Well spotted and shot
amazing works of nature for such tiny birds
