A male Eastern Tiger Swallowtail feeding on the flowers of a pagoda dogwood. I love how 365 pushes me to learn new things. I originally thought this was a female, but with further digging, thanks to google, I learned that the female has almost a ribbon of iridescent blue at the tail end of the lower wings and below the orange spots, whereas the male has just a small area of iridescent blue above the orange spots. Oh, the challenge of identifying our neighours from nature!
wonderful capture. I learn so much here too. Either from the pictures themselves or because seeing other people's pictures causes me to look new things up.
