Darn Pinterest! This was way more challenging than I anticipated. First sparkler broke the side out of the jar. Then I just couldn't seem to get the sparks where I thought they should be. Finally youngest took pity on me and suggested she stagger light two sparklers. There! Lots of sparks in the right places. I didn't get my composition quite right, but I think I'll cross this off my bucket list and move on. Oh...Definitely best viewed on black if you have a moment.
*if you are inclined to try this, you might note the bit of florist's clay I put in the bottom of the jar to hold the sparklers. After the first one broke the jar I found it worked better to hold them straight so they didn't touch the sides.
This came out real good, and I can just imagine how much work it must have been!! That's one more reason I avoid visiting Pinterest....and, then I get one of their emails with sites "I might be interested in", and it's all over!!
Super result. I broke a glass vase last year, trying to hold up a sparkler... but my vase didn't get sacrificed for such a good shot as yours! Really nice on black.
@rangerxenos I had some smoke, but more after than while burning. My sparklers burned so hot my problem was with the overwhelming white of the burning point and, of course, the heat buildup that broke my jar. I have done other sparkler work with my sister and have found that different sparklers, sometimes because of color or brand, burn very differently. I did like the sparklers I used for this, but I think that's more a matter of luck than design.
@eyesmile It was more frustrating than I anticipated, but not really dangerous...well...I did have to keep shooing the cats away. Curiosity can be dangerous at times.
I love this photo though, very well done!
