On my way home from town this evening I saw a large bird on the ground next to an old mailbox along the highway, so I turned around and went back. This hawk flew into the trees and settled. It was not at all concerned with my presence, though I didn't get out of the car. This small windbreak is where three young hawks were learning to fly last spring. I wonder if there is a nest of young ones nearby.
