Now that Spring has arrived, the kids have been shedding their winter gear with abandon. The library has accumulated quite a collection of coats and hats that we would like to return to their rightful owners. Our mascot, Sir Readalot of Watt, knight errant of the library, has been given the task of modeling the lost and found while standing sentry. I'm afraid it has compromised his dignity but Conference Day will be here soon, and I expect he will divest himself of most of this accumulation when parents walk by and see what he is wearing.
He's on permanent loan from the Academic Dean. We had a contest to name him and one of the kindergarten teacher's wrote a great poem in tribute (You can see the framed poem over his shoulder.) He has been great fun as we dress him for various holidays. And whatever book we put in his grasp gets chosen quickly by a student for check out.
how funny!! So you are a librarian? I have thought about going back to school to be a librarian but not sure I am ready to be out of the classroom....I love books!! :)
very cute story and i love the library! i volunteered each and every week back home at my daughters school in Indiana. Here in Cali we are homeschooling, but Monday (today) is our weekly Library day to the public Library :o)
I wish I could say being a librarian was a growth industry but too many communities and schools think it is a great place to cut expenses. Unfortunate, especially when the librarian should be on the front line of the Information Revolution.
Schools to accumulate quite a bit of stuff that kids shed, much to their parents' chagrin! I love Sir Readalot of Watt! You're so creative, I'll bet the kids actually remember to take their things home :)
