Taking my walk this morning, I stopped when I spied a lump of fur unmoving at the base of a tree. As I stood there for several minutes trying to figure out what little creature had died and how it met its end, this little squirrel (for that's what it was) raised its head and looked at me groggily. He was so small and his tail was as hairless as a rat's, so I have to assume he was a baby, ignorant of the ways of the world. He looked me right in the eye as if trying to figure me out, as I returned the favor. Then finally he pulled himself together and raced up the tree, I imagine he had quite a story to tell his mates when they gathered in the tree top that evening. And I'm imagining his Mom scolding him for forgetting one of the first commandments of squirrel life: "Thou shalt not sleep on the ground"
Cute shot and story. I wonder if he fell. I was out taking photos the other day and there was a baby on the ground making terrible noises and lying on its back. I thought it was dying so I moved off. Next thing I know it was scampering up a tree!
@wac Funny you should mention that. The day before on my walk I heard a crash and right in front of me a squirrel fell out of a tree, flat onto the street and barely took time to shake himself off before he leaped up and scurried right back up into the branches!
@Weezilou Thanks for letting me know. It's been a long time since any of my pictures showed up on the PP. But here's the odd thing; when I went to check not only was this collage there, but right next to it was the picture of the mirror I called "Why"
Bernie & I have just returned from our Cook Island holidays, so have to catch up on my commenting :)
