Sap's Rising

With temperatures reaching the high 70's, I took this picture of Middle Schoolers on the Lower School campus. As I walked by at a distance, I raised my camera quickly, trying to be stealthy. When I got home and examined the composition more closely, I found a wonderful dynamic that leaves many questions unanswered. Are they all friends or is there a tension among the group? And what are they all looking at with such attention? Most importantly, I am struck by the way they have arranged themselves. I couldn't have done better if I had directed them myself.
I also like the way the jungle gym snakes its way through the shot. They look to be getting along to me, but someone is definitely voicing an opinion and the others are listening!

When I first looked at this my immediate thought was tension between the two standing on the ground.

@kjarn I agree, if body language is any indication. Her balled fists and one foot aggressively forward, while he appears to be retreating. Those perched above seem to be interested as spectators at a gladiatorial combat. I may have it all wrong and they are all best friends, but to me their posture tells a different story.

That's exactly how I see it too.
