The Second Grade is in the middle of their study of birds. Today they were fortunate to have a visit from an organization that provides support for mistreated and abused birds. The stories the woman in charge told about these birds were both tragic and inspiring. A bird poisoned by second-hand smoke, another stuffed in a cage meant for a hamster, another tossed out after many years and left to fend for itself and one so traumatized it attempted to kill itself by sitting in the bottom of its cage and fasting. This shoe-string operation has over 20 birds that they have brought back to health and happiness. They visit schools and as you can see, the birds are happy and gentle enough to be handled by children. Even children who started out wary, were willing to at least stroke the feathers of these beautiful birds.
@alia_801 I think you'll love these pictures so I tagging you here!
What a wonderful organization- it really looks like they have done amazing things in rehabilitating the birds. And judging from the pictures everyone- feathered or otherwise had a good time that day!
Awwww! So many gorgeous birdies! That sounds like an awesome day for everyone! I think the blue and gold macaw is having the most fun though. Which rescue group was it?
