These are enthusiastic second graders helping to prepare the garden for planting. They donned work gloves and pulled up masses of chickweed. Ellen said this was the perfect job for youngsters because the whole bed was weeds so they didn't have to differentiate between "good" plants and "bad" plants. They just grabbed and yanked. After completing their job, they still had time for recess.
I have been hearing and reading so many stories of kids and gardens lately. I just love this movement. Growing food can be such a rewarding experience at any age.
