A second look at my Unidentified Blooming Object from yesterday. I am still not convinced it is a magnolia because of the shape of the tree and branches. Anyone? Anyone?
Beautiful! I love the pink against that blue sky! If you ever do get a definitive answer, let me know! I wonder if I've been calling these by the wrong name my whole life. (Certainly wouldn't be the first time! LOL!)
I don't have a tree book proper, but my Weekend Gardener book has an overview of popular trees and these flowers really look like a magnolia tree. The only difference is that the leaves of the Southern Magnolia which they have a picture of, are on the tree at the same time as the blossom, but these don't seem to have full-fledged leaves with them. Other than that, all the other characteristics match this tree. So maybe this is a different variety of magnolia, but it really does look like a magnolia to me.
