I hope you will look closely at this bee, perhaps with the magnifier, and pay special attention to the yellow under its wing. At first I thought it was a bit of sunflower petal caught there but the more I peered (and he stayed still for quite awhile) the more it seemed it was actually part of the bee's accoutrements. Whatever the truth is, he seemed color-coordinated with the sunflower.
Let me also add that as I stood in the garden surrounded by native plants of all sorts, I was transfixed by the pulsing, buzzing symphony of bees, flies, and butterflies hovering, leaping and landing on the array of blossoms. The miracle was that I wasn't really aware of the variety and number until I stood quite still and really looked and listened. What a glorious gift.
Oh, may I return the compliment that your concluding sentence was joyous to read! I think, with our cameras, we've learned to sit quietly and appreciate our surroundings all the more. I enlarged your photo and culd see the bee beautifully!
Beautiful shot Allison! I've sort of had the same experience waking up in the morning and really listening to all the different bird calls- so many when you really start to hear them! Beautiful shot! And I think it's pollen on his legs. Beautiful commentary too.
Beautiful capture! I also enlarged the photo to see the bee. The detail is great. The natural intricacies in the flower and the bee are quite something.
