I stopped in my tracks at the grocery store today when I saw this display of Cracker Jacks. First produced for the Chicago World's Fair of 1893, it has had a long history under private and several corporate owners. I'm guessing this is a replica of the original packaging. I haven't seen ( or eaten) this peanut and popcorn mix since I was a kid. It does bring back memories.
I loved Cracker Jack as a kid. My grandparents would buy these for my brother and I! I thought the little toys were the best! What nostagia! Thanks for sharing.
My parents wouldn't let me have these for fear I'd get cavities. No little toys for me! I wanted them more than the cracker jacks. Now I'll buy a box and get a toy!
I'm trying to remember the jingle and all I can remember is "lip-smackin" and "What you get when you gotta eat somethin' and it's gotta be good and it's gotta be now..." lol I liked Cracker Jack but tended to go for the Mary Janes and Dots (the sugar dots that came on paper strips) because you could get so much more with your 5 cents that way! Great shot though- it does bring back some fun memories.
i think i have always loved and still do love his cute navy sailor suit more then the treats inside the box.
i remember this look too but not from the worlds fair.
nice to see this. thanks
I took a trip down memory lane when I saw this! Somehow Cracker jack was never the same years later. Love the packaging (what a find!) and I used to collect all the toys.....probably worth a fortune now if I would have saved them.
