After being told for days by the weather service and other crack meteorologists that Richmond would only get rain today, I left for school at my usual 7:15 departure time. At first, as I drove through a heavy rain it seemed the weathermen had gotten it right. However as I continued driving west to school, the rain changed to snow and the condition of the road deteriorated. Fortunately the traffic was lighter than usual. When I got to school I figured out why. The parking lot was unplowed and empty except for a few tire tracks that were rapidly filling in. I pulled out my iPad and checked my email and sure enough school was cancelled. Unfortunately the decision had been made at 7:30, when I was already on the road. I turned around and made my way back home. When I checked my email from home, I learned my colleague Susan and about 15 other teachers had converged in the parking lot just a few minutes later.
To make up for today's late decision, the school has already announced a 2 hour delay for tomorrow!
Beautiful photo! I'm glad you made it back and forth to school safely; shame they had to make the decision so late. The school I work at usually robocalls around 5:30. We were supposed to have 2-4 inches of snow but it ended up just being rain. I'm okay with that because we've already lost three days of our spring break to Hurricane Sandy.
Bummer! You didn't get to sleep in AND you missed a party in the parking lot. Nice photo op, though. Love the composition. Meteorologists have the best job don't they - zero accountability!
