RVA Street Art Festival is part of an effort to revitalize 5.5 acres of walls and buildings on the former GRTC bus depot with public art, murals sessions, sculpture, and mixed-media exhibits as well as stories and ideas about the history and future of transportation in Richmond.
On the upper right you can see inside one of the bus barns. Hanging on the walls are formal photographs of a sampling of bus drivers with short reflective biographies outlining what bus transportation has meant to them personally and to the history of Richmond.
You can see in my collage a few of the great murals being created. There were a number of hydraulic lifts scattered throughout so even kids could help paint.
It was a wonderful day but I can't figure out how they can make it an annual event once all the walls are covered with murals. Will artists just paint over last year's work?
I recommend using the magnifier because the black background shows the pictures to better advantage.
There is a wall in East Stroudsburg that the university paints a mural on. It doesn't get painted over every year, but once in a while you can see that they're repainting old sections of it with new scenes. But it's a much smaller scale than this. Nice collage.
