Graduation from the Upper School is held outdoors on Friday morning. It used to be held in the evening but in central Virginia there is always the possibility of afternoon thunderstorms at this time of year. Now it is held at 9 AM and all we have to worry about is becoming overheated -- especially the young men in their coats and ties. The girls, on the other hand, wear white, summery dresses and play it very cool. The entire K-12 faculty process in with dignity and sit in a reserved section to signify the influence the long line of teachers, starting in kindergarten, have on the graduates.
It takes several days to get everything just right for the ceremony. Today the chairs are being placed and then the platform for the graduating class will be set up.
