Some of my FaceBook friends might recall my grumbling about the mourning dove that was driving me crazy, beginning at 5 am, with its constant cooing from a nearby tree. Well, this morning a dove fluttered right onto my patio, and landed on the fence. I was able to stealthily open the sliding glass door, but unlatching the screen would certainly have spooked the bird, so this picture was taken through the screen. Was he my early morning nemesis? I really can't be sure, but I see no signs of contrition.
On a happier note, due to an increase in temperature and humidity, today we turned the air conditioning back on after ten days of cool weather, and with the windows closed, I just might not be able to hear his mournful song.
P.S. How many of you thought, as I once believed, that this was a bird who was active before noon, giving it the name "morning dove"?
...not me... I always paired the name "Mourning Dove" with it's mournful call... I'd have no trouble sleeping through the coo of a mourning dove at 5 AM, but then I do have windows closed, a sound machine and a fan...
