Beezy Bogan and Rita MacNelly are collaborating artists merging sculpture and painting. Many years ago they gave the dog in the background to our library, and he has guarded our collection faithfully ever since. This summer we welcomed a new resident to our library from the studio of the same artists. He arrived after a stint in one of the art studios at school. He came already named, and the name was chosen by Rita's grandson, Jake, who just graduated from the Lower School. The name he selected was Dewey, and, believe it or not, Jake knew nothing about Melvil Dewey and his system of organizing libraries called...The Dewey Decimal System! A strange coincidence or destiny? I'd like to think it was meant to be, and Dewey will spend many happy years surveying our collection.
