As the school year draws to a close, we must inventory our entire collection and “weed” those books that are damaged, inaccurate or no longer popular. The discarded books are offered to classroom teachers and other schools, but before doing that, we must remove all library markings. This team of crack library volunteers are helping us get the books ready for their new homes. They help during the 20 minute period before classes begin in the morning. Their pay? Fresh doughnuts when the job is done! By the time we have completed the task, almost a thousand books have been processed and many Third and Fourth Graders have pitched in. Every year we select an equal number of fresh new books to keep our collection up-to-date and appealing.
