The fragrance of gardenias is heavenly. I did a little research about growing this tropical plant in Virginia. According to my sources, it is best grown in zones 8-11, and Richmond is in zone 7a. Apparently with thoughtful selection of a location in your garden and careful tending through cold weather, it is possible to cultivate some varieties. This bush was clearly thriving. It was covered with beautiful fragrant blossoms. My first corsage was a gardenia, so I have a special place in my heart for this flower.
