Here are a few samples from the Sonic Impulse portion of The Dirty South exhibition at the VMFA. On the upper left is an arrangement of 30 speakers evoking a church organ as well as the facade of the Ebenezer Baptist Church where MLK jr. was co-pastor. Out of the speakers came a glorious program of choral music. On the lower right is a screen on which a hip hop artist performs and below is the very jacket he wore in the video. My descriptions are rather perfunctory and show how much I need to return to the museum and dig deeper.
