Crowds gathering on the steps of the Shrine of Remembrance. After the awful weather we have had, last night's weather was perfect for family gatherings and fireworks.
This is the first time I have taken part in the Get Pushed challenge and not sure if this qualifies and I am not sure whether I have the mechanics of this correct (@northy ?). Bec @walksnaplove challenged me to create a narrative in a single shot. This was a little like the Six Word Story challenge which I love participating in.
The narrative in this shot: last night was an absolutely perfect New Year's Eve weather-wise. Families began gathering at dusk for the first fireworks session, called 'the kiddies fireworks'. The lawns around the Shrine of Remembrance lawns are a popular place from which to view the fireworks along the Yarra River and in the Botanic Gardens. The atmosphere was really calm, joyous and happy. This group of four people were all texting while they waited.
Challenge well met. And how civilized is this scene - it's so neat the way people can see the fireworks from so many areas in Melbourne - without all the crowds and rushing. :)
A very familiar sight for me. The Shrine of Remembrance is the first place we visited when we first moved to Australia 36 years ago. David had left the RAF, joined the RAAF and his first posting was at Victoria Barracks just down the road from here and until we were allocated a married quarter we stayed in a Travelodge that at the time was on the corner of St Kilda Road and Park Avenue. I believe it is long gone now though.
Morning Babs. How interesting. I worked at Victoria Barracks as a civilian for the then Department of Air. I worked in the old wooden buildings behind the main bluestone building. They were then long overdue for pulling down but now have gone. You would be really amazed at how Vic Barracks looks now. And yes the Travelodge has also long gone and there are major major changes in that area of St Kilda Road with the new Anzac Station. @onewing
I will correct the date when I can.
