Grey-headed Flying-fox by annied

Grey-headed Flying-fox

Flying-foxes, a type of megabat, are nomadic mammals that travel across large areas and feed on native blossoms and fruits.

They play an important role in spreading seeds and pollinating native plants.

There is a flying fox camp at East Cessnock where this photo was taken. A flying-fox camp is a patch of trees that flying-foxes are found in during the day. The flying foxes were unusually noisy and active which is why I noticed them as we drove by. It was an extremely hot day and the flying foxes were trying to cool down.

Wow- cool shot (even though bats don't usually make me feel all that comfortable!).

@koalagardens they are wonderful and it's sad they are under threat....people don't seem to like them much. It was a very hot day and you could tell they were uncomfortable....there were dozens in the trees and they were flapping to cool down.
