So...............................this is real blood, a real blade and my very real finger...................while having a shower and trying to wash my hair with only my left hand ( it is my right index finger that sustained the injury while I was cutting a tomato with a newly sharpened knife ) I starting thinking about how the injury only affects some things I do
---------------why? you might ask - well the title should give you a hint. And got me thinking about days gone by.
I assume I have always been ambidextrous but my earliest memory is sewing class in primary school. We had a mean and grumpy teacher who I nicknamed "Cranky Cronk" - Cronk being her very apt last name - I slipped one day and said it to her face and got into all sorts of trouble - it was worth it though to see the reaction on her face. Anyway - I sew left handed - in those days I recall being left handed was not a good thing - the devil and all that - so Cranky Cronk would make me undo my sewing and she would start it again and expect me to continue right handed - my sewing was appalling to say the least - my parents knew the saga but didn't fuss too much about it. I remember one open day at school when my parents and I almost keeled over in shock when one of my sewing pieces ended up on display - it wasn't too bad but wasn't anywhere near the standards of the others - we all agreed the silly cow had done it on purpose and laughed it off. I struggle to sew on a button to this day.
Early on in high school I hurt my right hand - we had assignments coming up and really needed to take notes in class - at that stage I had only written with my right hand - out of necessity I started writing with my left - printing not cursive - since then I write with both - printing with the left and cursive and printing with the right - my left hand can also write backwards - the kids at school think it is pretty cool hahaha.
I am extremely "cacky" handed - besides the above I
~play tennis and squash with both
~bat in cricket with my right but bowl and field with the left
~ open jars, turn screws etc with my left
~ knife and fork - using both fork in left using spoon or fork by itself it is left
~ I crochet left handed and never know with knitting
and the list goes on hahahahaha
so there you have it - odd in more ways than one LOL
PS I am guessing the fact that I stopped to take photos of the bloody finger confirms it hahahahaha
i, too, am ambidextrous. i'm actually right handed but i learned to do things with my left hand just to piss off the priests. my brother was left handed and he was forced to become right handed. i wield my dirty finger left handed, too! :-P so now i ask: how did you hold the camera when you took these pics? upside down? i want to say nice shots, but really, it's a cut with blood oozing. tee-hee!
@bill_fe thanks Bill - I remember when I first started playing indoor cricket - it threw the blokes for a loop when they saw me bowl left handed and then turn up to bat right handed hahahaha
Like you and @summerfield, I am largely ambidextrous.
Loved your story. Thanks so much for sharing. I don't know too many other ppl who can write backwards left-handed. Just adds to my general weirdness, I think, and that's not a bad thing! ;)
Here's to a quick recovery. Your creativity in presentation is wonderful!
@graemestevens it was pretty cool - one of those cuts where the blood oozes in globlets hahaha - however the best time was when I had a sliver of glass in my finger - so tiny but when I squeezed the blood shot out in a thin stream - before my photograph literally anything days hahahaha
@graemestevens they do have a certain appeal which I think stems from my youth when in summer I would constantly kick the top off my big toe - what happens when you don't wear shoes
@graemestevens haha it is indeed
oh - I got me some peking duck for dinner - had a good thought for a collage type image using the duck that swims in my pool as well - but - then thought it may offend more than I am willing to - hahahaha
Very interesting and cool shot. I guess your "Trigger" finger for you camera is not the that is injured? I did this once with a table knife. I was trying to get ice cream out of the carton and it was frozen so hard I used a knife. My left hand was under the carton and the knife whent through. Ouch! 4 stitches later....I learned a lesson. Now i let the the ice cream set for a few minutes before getting into it. hahaha!
@eyesmile used my left hand for this with my little point and shoot - usually hold in my right so took a few goes to get it right lol @dibzgreasley finger injuries are quite annoying
Haha the story is so funny and you must be a very complicated person with all those left or right things. Sorry for the mishap - hope it will heal soon. Cool shot. Years ago I cut a piece of my thumb off with the circular saw of my woodworking machine - if that's some consolation for you.
Ouch! Granny was left handed and had the same problem with her teachers. She taught herself how to do things moderately well right handed and when she had a stroke that semi paralysed her right side later in life, she just switched back to her using left hand - it was a bit of a godsend in many ways.
Oh ouch, that looks quite nasty! I am quite envious of people who can use both hands, you sound quite talented with your left and right handed adventures! (:
Well now that's one way to deal with the damage! I had an altercation last week with a dog that I was busy grooming and he left me with my right index finger pouring out blood! Thankfully I was able to still wield my clippers and scissors without having to use that finger. Of course bathing the dogs posed a problem but that too was fairly easily remedied!
@redpants you do indeed Sue lol @salza oh dear - yes getting it wet isn't good @kathiecb took heaps of pics today so all is good hahaha @derekvickers thank you Derek :) @pauliek thanks Paulette I love collages hahaha @taffy a little but not too bad Taffy @jaynspain oh I hate paper cuts
