homeless? unwanted? unloved? by annied

homeless? unwanted? unloved?

"There is much suffering in the world - physical, material, mental. The suffering of some can be blamed on the greed of others. The material and physical suffering is suffering from hunger, from homelessness, from all kinds of diseases. But the greatest suffering is being lonely, feeling unloved, having no one. I have come more and more to realize that it is being unwanted that is the worst disease that any human being can ever experience."
-- Mother Teresa (1910-1998)
A heartbreaking peek into reality. Thanks for sharing this sensitive image.

This is a great image. I have often wondered how they cope in winter. I have seen and been near lots of homeless people in Melbourne while shooting early in the mornings. They can be very crafty in their efforts to survive. But it really is a sad scene.

Such a complex and fraught issue - a very sensitive image.

@karlow75 Imagine how they cope in winter in a state like Maine. The truth is if they don't get into shelter sometimes they don't survive the nights here. But hey I know people who blame them for not having jobs. You can always get a job they say. Hope they never loss theirs in this market. Sorry I am the only liberal in my work place and many days I just want to scream.

I hadn't heard this quote before and wasn't at all surpised that it was from Mother Teresa. She was so right of course and sadly, this individual is one of countless tens of thousands suffering from this particular blight.

What a sad scene. I used to have lots of dealings with homeless people when I worked closely with the Sacred Heart Mission when we lived in Melbourne. All these people need is someone who takes the time to care. It is a very worthwhile cause and very humbling.

thank you all for your thoughtful comments - sadly it is a common sight around Sydney

This is a very moving photo.
It's too bad that the truly homeless people are often overlooked because of the fakers who are just trying to get money the easy way.
These words are so very true, Mother Teresa was a true saint
Well done

You never know what the story is, or the reasons why. But it doesn't mean one should turn a blind eye. This shot is very respectful and well-done.

@nicholas @yaorenliu it was a sneaky one but only because I did not want to offend and I just saw it as I turned and it seemed right

I knew, I feel so bad the other day after I took a photo of a homeless man. He just ignored me, and set himself on the bench to sleep, made me feel even smaller. I wish that I can help in some way.
November 14th, 2014
@yaorenliu I know what you mean - I am thinking about going for a city walk and just stopping to chat a while

Love your comment from Mother Teresa. So true and I feel so much for those without anyone to specifically love and want them. I have a friend who is homeless and we try to be a friend and help when we can. Sometimes it seems like he doesn't want our help. Difficult to understand.
