Dag is an Australian and New Zealand slang term. In Australia, it is often used as an affectionate insult for someone who is, or is perceived to be, unfashionable, lacking self-consciousness about their appearance and/or with poor social skills yet affable and amusing. it is also used to describe an amusing, quirky and likeable person (as in, "He's a bit of a dag") and is non-pejorative. The term was more widely used in the 70s due to the popular New Zealand comedy of Fred Dagg (John Clarke).
The literal meaning is a dung-caked lock of wool around the hindquarters of a sheep
Very familiar with both terms since my dad was a shearer and probably a bit of a dag himself ;-) We do love a good dag don't we? Fabulous shot Annie but I'm not sure there's any dag in you :)
Ha! Fun capture Ms. Annie. I just learned the term last night. I had to look up the definition of 'it's rooted' thanks to @graemestevens Mr. S. I was taken to a page that explained quite a few of the Aussie quirky terms, and this was included.
@bill_fe hahahaha oh I do love the Aussie terms - I usually only need to look up English ones as I think we learn most American ones from TV lol
my knee is rooted at the moment - hoping that's the meaning you found lol
@bill_fe think should get mine looked at probs should stop netball but then I think everything may stop working lol
hope Arthur not causing too many problems and pain.
Hmmm...we have an expression here, "Dag gone it!" or "Dag nabbit!" and I don't think it applies to either of those definitions! hehe Fun, individualistic and creative shot- but then I've come to expect that of you!
Very fun and creative selfie. :-)
Australian slang really is something else… Only other slang that comes even close must be the Cockney rhyming slang in England...

Lovely selfie, Annie.....I can definitely see you embracing your Dagnes!!! I think of you as a lovely goofball with a joy for life and a penchant for mischief! ;-))
