Encephalartos ferox by annied

Encephalartos ferox

In my main album this month I am joining Sam @gigiflower and shooting Manual May

Encephalartos ferox is one of the most beautiful and interesting African cycads, featuring bright red cones and glossy leaves with sharp lobes. Also known as the " Holly Leaf Cycad", Encephalartos ferox grows along the coastline of South Africa and Mozambique, often in pure sand. The species name "ferox" is Latin for "ferocious", due to its thorny leaves.
Many of the cycads at Adelaide Botanic Gardens were coning - it was wonderful to see them in all their glory.
Lovely photo. Another tree I've never heard of, what an amazing cone. Just beautiful. Your botanical gardens must be amazing!

@annied I can certainly see why. I love cycads, but have never (yet) tried growing any of them. Was told they're rather temperamental.

@golftragic there are many varieties - some are a bit finicky - but mostly they a resilient - but very slow growing
