Cockatoo Island - all about the cranes - 1

This week is going to be all about the cranes.
This Electric Portal Travelling Jib Crane is one of Cockatoo Island's icons, due to its size and visibility from the water. This crane was used in the refitting of submarines. Its elevated control panel and counterweighted jib are representative of the island's ship building and ship repair heritage. Rail mounted so it could travel the length of the Bolt Wharf, it had great precision and was ideal for the complex refitting of the Oberon-class submarines which were built in Britain in the 1960's. For such a large crane, the amount it lifted was quite small - around 5 tons.
now i do love me a crane, especially shot and edited like this. like the narrative too :)
