The Cathedral of St. Michael and St. John
1840 - The Foundation Stone of St. Michael’s, located on the corner of George & Keppel St, the first Catholic Church in Bathurst, was laid by Bishop Polding. St. Michael’s Church was in use by 1841 and building completed 1848 with leadlight windows. Due to subsidence the building became unsafe within a decade.
1857 - The Foundation Stone of the new church of St. Michael and St. John is laid by Bishop Polding. Structural stone undertaken by Mr McEwen using stone quarried at Mount Lambie. Carving & decorative stone done by Edward Gell.
