Some more images from Hill End.
The building in the bottom photo is the Great Western Store. This historic store is now the home of the impressive Holtermann Collection (see below for more details) of photographs of Hill End in the 1870s by Beaufoy Merlin. It is a superb record of the town at its height.
Unfortunately it was a public holiday this day so wasn't open.
