This road goes all around the Wrekin . The Wrekin is a local hill in Shropshire & is a predominate and well known land mark rising to the height of 407meters (1,335 ft ) above the Shropshire Plain and popular with walkers & visitors
"All around the Wrekin" is a common phrase used locally , meaning the long way around , and "To all friends around the Wrekin" is a toast traditionally used in Shropshire especially at Christmas and New Year .
Love this information. It is really fantastic what you learn on 365 ! This is a lovely shot of the changing trees and landscape as we approach winter. Fav.
Very interesting and think the expression is the same as 'all around the houses'. Nice to have a local flavour to the saying! Although your day is dull you have some nice colour from the trees.
Yes, I agree with Graham, soon this will be a very different scene. Were you walking or did you stop the car. Hats off to you if you trudged up this hill!
@quietpurplehaze@lucypics@jantan@snowy@thresheg Thank you all I have spent a lot of time around the Wrekin in the past I remember an year group of us teachers walking the whole year group around the Wrekin on a non teaching day ( a day of free activities we had towards the end of the summer term !!) A lovely day out in the fresh air without a cooker in sight --I used to teach Home Ech ..later to be known as Food Technology !! Unfortunately at the moment I have great difficulty & pain in walking at all !! I hope things will improve when I have a knee replacement --hopefully in around feb '14 sorry for the moan !!
Still a fair number of leaves on the trees this year considering it will be 1st December on Sunday! I hope you get to walk around it again after your knee replacement Beryl.
