Two days ago ,Gary found this little pigeon fledgling in the back garden on the paved area ,looking very stunned ! We left him alone and provided a dish of bird food and water All evening we kept an w eye on him ! and tried to fence off the area so Alfie wouldn't show interest and perhaps go in for the kill After all he is a terrier !!
Yesterday morning the bird looked perkier and eventually moved onto the lawn and under the bushes ( no protection now from Alfie !! ) Soon I could hear the parent cooing and soon both Mr and Mrs Pigeon were there feeding him on the lawn -- (Alfie didn't seemed to have noticed !) Later chick went under the bushes and Mr and Mrs flew away ,periodically visiting the garden .At teatime Mr and Mrs returned for the repeat performance of feeding --all of which I could view from the conservatory .
My other pic shows the feeding process !
I wonder what today will bring --I hear Mr or Mrs P cooing up on the roof-top --- just went to the conservatory to find the feeding ritual happening on the lawn . I just hope Alfie will not get interested -- but I am afraid its in the lap of the Gods now !! as Alfie has to have the freedom of his domain !
I've never seen a pigeon fledgeling before and I suspect most folk are not as kind as you towards these birds, Beryl. Hope you are OK. A nice shot and story.
@khirsch Thanks Karin -- the surgery eye is a little less painful , swelling going down ,but still runny !! The bloodshot eye as bright as ever -- but will get there !! Re the pigeon saga --I think he has managed to fly away with mum and dad !!
Aww, cute but they are such pests,
I watched some sparrows and their fledglings; they just could not get up high enough when flying and Mum and Dad sparrow were very encouraging - possibly because there are so many cats,
Yes, take it easy. It is the weekend! You did well to get some shots.
