Reculver Towers & Roman Fort by bigmxx

Reculver Towers & Roman Fort

Day 149 - Had a drive about today and ended up at Reculver, it was a bit overcast but managed a nice walk and snapped a few pictures along the way. The Roman Fort of Regulbium was established around AD200 whereupon it was occupied for 200 years until it was abandoned, it was later re-used as an Anglo-Saxon monastery. The monastic church was subsequently adapted and served as Reculver's parish church until the early 19th century when coastal erosion led to it's demolition. Only the tower's (as seen today) were saved as navigational markers.
Interesting history.

Wow! Amazing that it has lasted so long and is still standing! That is what makes it so special and what I love about Europe...all the history and interesting architecture...churches, castles and cottages.

PS...you need to straighten up the photo a bit. :)

@chrisiow @amfrumbiddivurd @yorkshirekiwi @anniesue @bkbinthecity Thank you for your comments :) @gardenfolk Thank you for your comment, do you mean straighten the edges of the towers or the whole shot? I'm still new to taking pictures on this camera :)

I recognised this one right away - great shot. Would love to do a sunset through the towers. Maybe one day ...
