For some of you those words may remind you of a English Comedy, which by the way I find absolutely hilarious. However they also remind me of an experience that I recently had at a department store. Unfortunately good service was the last thing I received when I was there.
That brings me to my photo today which is the Kelly Building located in the heart of downtown. When it was built it was home to the James Ramsay Department Store which was one of the earliest department stores in Edmonton. I am sure that good customer service was found there on a daily basis. Business was so good that they expanded the business and built the building right next to it which is the Ramsay Building. It was built as an annex to the ddepartment store. When James Ramsay retired he sold his business to the T Eaton Co. which used this building for several years.
Today both building sit vacant but some developers have decided to fix both of them up and build on to the Kelly Building. If you view this picture enlarged you can see a sign on the building that gives an artists concept as to what the finished project will look like.
I am glad that they are keeping these as they are a couple of the last buildings still standing from that time period in this part of the city.
Lovely building, deserves to be kept; don't get me started on Customer Service, I used to be a Customer Service Manager and woe betide anyone in my team who did not display excellent CS skills, no excuses for not doing! Whoops sorry off my soap box now!
@claireuk I worked in the retail industry for almost 12 years in a men's clothing store so I do know all about it and to me it is lacking so much in todays stores
That's great- I love it when history is preserved and buildings are restored or renovated to be used in a new way. You'll have to revisit it when the remodeling is done for a before and after picture.
department stores everywhere are struggling - I got a shot of the windows above some shops that showed it was once a department store on Sunday in Camden, London - nice record of the building - sorry, mad catch up here
I love those old english comedies as well
