The Classroom of 1912

Continuing with my tour through the McKay Avenue School Museum. This classroom was set up to depict what it would have looked like in 1912
is that a dummy or a real person? this looks like the moot court we had at the law school where i attended back in the old country. love those tall arched windows. great shot, brian.

October 24th, 2013

October 24th, 2013
Beautiful flooring here and I expect nobody appreciated it then! Yes the arched windows are also very special!
October 24th, 2013
I was born much later than 1912, but the desk I sat on during elementary school were exactly like those. Great capture.
October 24th, 2013
they have done a good job in the restoration, looks like photos I have seen of that time. Nicely presented
October 24th, 2013
Wonderful light for learning there!

October 24th, 2013
Two per bench then?
October 24th, 2013
Uh oh Brian- did they make you stay after school again?! Nice shot- I love how sunny that classroom was.
October 24th, 2013
Great capture...looks like it is ready for class to begin!!! (is that a real person?) Wonderful light and tones....nicely done!! =)
October 24th, 2013
This classroom is very similar to the ones I had in elementary school back in Ohio. Fabulous capture of a time long ago! The wooden floors and arches are fantastic.
October 24th, 2013
super lighting for your shot!
October 24th, 2013
Wow, that's a cool picture! Comparing it to my classroom in 2013... it's really a difference, thanks for showing!
October 24th, 2013
Actually when I went to elementary school, my classroom looked very similar except we each had a desk with an inkwell. LOL.....brings back memories.
October 24th, 2013
Rather a splendid class room I think......those lovely windows let in lots of light..would be cold though in the early twentieth century, no double glazing there!!
October 24th, 2013
wow, very cool!
October 24th, 2013
Nice capture..:)
October 24th, 2013
Fantastic historical shot! - I remember the neat rows of desks and chairs in classrooms well after 1912!

October 24th, 2013
Lovely shot.
October 24th, 2013
Lovely room - actually it looks very much like the classrooms I had in elementary school
October 24th, 2013
Neat classroom. There are no desks. I guess the kids wrote on slates in their laps. I'd be surprised if the classrooms in 1912 were that well lit.
October 24th, 2013
Lovely historic shot. Very interesting.
October 24th, 2013
Great view and capture of this lovely historical school class
October 24th, 2013
une très joli classe, belle prise
October 24th, 2013
Isn't that lovely? It's taken a lot of years since school days to appreciate how charming those rooms were!
October 24th, 2013
That's nostalgia, super image.
October 24th, 2013
Great shot. Love the look of the classroom.

@yorkie I love the fact that they have preserved all of this wonderful wood throughout the building
October 25th, 2013
@ziggy77 Thanks Jo
October 25th, 2013
@linc the classrooms have not changed much other than the styles of desks maybe
October 25th, 2013
@vernabeth Maybe that was part of the reason for the large windows. The front row does not have a desk to it but the ones behind them do
October 25th, 2013
@writingdays Thanks Rohini
October 25th, 2013
@pyrrhula Glad you enjoyed this one

October 25th, 2013
@swguevin It has a wonderful design to it
October 25th, 2013
@boycotting Glad I shared this one and I hope you took a look at the other couple of shots of the school
October 25th, 2013
@maggiemae Yes I am sure none of us appreciated the work and effort that went into designing and building the schools we went to
October 25th, 2013
@anazad511 Thanks AnaZad. The desks I used were slightly different than these
October 25th, 2013

October 25th, 2013
@olivetreeann No not me Ann. I was to well behaved for that to have happened. LOL
October 25th, 2013
@eyesmile They have done a great job setting this up. They have placed these dummies in different spots in the building

@justaspark Glad to have shared this one Jule
October 25th, 2013
@cimes1 Glad this was ble to bring back some memories for you Carole
October 25th, 2013
What I notice is that there are lots of windows for lots of natural light.
October 25th, 2013
It looks rather beautiful now; I love the arched windows. I can imagine it having been rather crowded when it was actually in use. But this is a lovely shot with that natural light on the floor and desks.
October 26th, 2013
I agree, the natural light falls very gently and softly on the wooden furniture, making it the perfect environment for learning and studying.
October 26th, 2013
@lynnb They certainly do provide that
October 26th, 2013
@tristansmum Not sure what the enrollment was at that time but since there was a big boom going on in Edmonton at the time I am sure it was a large class
October 26th, 2013
@gratefulness Nice environment but it also may have lead to a lot of day dreaming
October 26th, 2013
@bkbinthecity That's true! Too many windows to gaze out of! Ha, ha!
October 26th, 2013
All looks very orderly and neat, love those windows. I wonder if there were loose desk tops for those who sat in the front row?
October 27th, 2013
Wonderful shot, I like to visit a past times museum here, good to see how things used to be
October 27th, 2013
@salza I am not sure about those
October 28th, 2013
