Preserving The Past

Located on Rice Howard Way is what once was the James Ramsey Department Store. The facade on the right is the Kelly Building. The facade on the left is the Ramsey buiilding.
When fire destroyed the interior the buildings were torn down. The bricks from the facades were saved and put back in place when the Enbridge Tower was built.
James Ramsey hired John Kelly to construct a building for his store in 1914. With business booming Ramsey built the extention in 1926.
Eventually he sold his store to the Timothy Eaton Company.
Of an interesting note James Ramsey was the first retailer in Edmonton to start to use pennies in his daily business
I like this type of inclusion of old architecture into new one

What a great shot of the old and new.

How great that they could reuse the bricks and incorporate them into the new buildings.

Interesting shot, it is good when historic buildings are restored. Too many beautiful buildings are destroyed in the name of progress. They have been here in Nottingham but now many of them are being renovated.
