Floods at Little Paxton by busylady

Floods at Little Paxton

Another picture of yesterday's floods. Little Paxton Loch floods regularly causing the town of St Neots to become very busy. The houses to the left were built on 'the island' between the River Great Ouse and the navigable channel. It was thought that they would always be prone to flooding but it seems that because of the system of lochs, the water will always be carried safely away.
Wow, no fun at all, hope it goes away fast.

Lucky that the water gets channelled away safely but I do query where they build houses today. There is talk of a hospital built over a stream on the news today....why!!!!

it's a lovely shot judith even though 'floods' is not something we like...the double yellow line works well with the colours in the frame

Thank you for sharing all these images of the flooding. I sure wish you could share some of that rain with us. We have been dry for months.

Interesting stuff - I've seen those on the way to Paxton Pits (have I - are they the ones?) Does saving them mean flooding elsewhere? I've been wondering with the increase in flood defences whether new places are vulnerable.

@judithg Yes, you probably have seen these on the way to Paxton Pits, and no I don't think anywhere else is at risk, as all the water is channelled safely away back to the river. Out allotment is close by and is under 6 inches of water - tried unsuccessfully to dig up some underwater parsnips!

@busylady Yuck!! My sister's allotment has been ruined by rain this year - ah well - we'll probably have dry next...
